Prof. Dr. Angelo Ranaldo and his chair "Finance and Systemic Risk" were part of the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance, s/bf-HSG, from 2012 until the end of 2021. As of January 1, 2022, the chair is affiliated as an independent chair to the School of Finance (SoF-HSG).
In 2018, the European Central Bank awarded Prof. Dr. Angelo Ranaldo the "Wim Duisenberg Fellowship" and subsequently contracted him for the "Regular Research Visitor Program". Furthermore, he was appointed as International Chair at LUISS University in Rome.
His research areas are System Risk, Market Microstructure, International Finance, Asset Pricing and Monetary Policy. Numerous papers have been published in several academic journals, including Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Review of Finance, Journal of Money Credit and Banking, Journal of Financial & Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of International Money & Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and European Journal of Finance.
Before joining the University of St.Gallen, he worked for several years as an economic consultant and was a member of the management of the Swiss National Bank (SNB). He gained further professional experience as a guest economist at the Federal Reserve in New York and during several years in asset allocation and risk management in banking.
After his undergraduate and graduate studies at Bocconi University, Professor Ranaldo earned his PhD at the University of Fribourg and was a visiting researcher at the New York University Stern School of Business. He has been a visiting professor at Aarhus University and has given several lectures at the Universities of Fribourg and Zurich. In 2010, he habilitated at the University of Zurich, where he still teaches as a "Privatdozent". In October 2017, Angelo Ranaldo was awarded the titular professorship by the University of Zurich.

Beat Bernet wrote his PhD thesis in economics at the University of Zurich/Switzerland. After working for an international company and a private bank he founded a consulting company focussing on financial institutions, which he developped as CEO and president for more than 15 years. In 1995 he was elected professor for banking at the University of St.Gallen/HSG (full chair). Until summer 2010 he was managing director of the Swiss Institute for Banking and Finance. From 1999-2001 he served as Dean of the School of Management at the University.
He is a board member of several banks and other financial and non-financial companies. For many years he was chairman of the board of a stock-listed bank. He regularly works as expert for several national and international institutions like the Swiss Government, Swiss National Science Foundation, Central Banks, IMF or Worldbank on banking and financial system issues. Since 2010 he is founding partner and president of an private investment company focussing on SME. He is author of several best-selling books and many publications on financial management topics.

Bruno Gehrig studied economics at the University of Berne where he also received his doctorate. He pursued further studies at the University of Rochester, New York, and received an honorary doctorate. Furthermore, he worked as an assistant professor at the University of Berne. From 1992 to 1996, he was Professor of Banking and Finance at the University of St Gallen where he was Director of the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance.
Bruno Gehrig is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss International Air Lines as well as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding AG, Basel, where he also chairs the Remuneration Committee. In 2008, he was elected to the Board of Directors of UBS. There, he is a member of the Governance and Nominating as well as the Human Resources and Compensation Committees. From 2003 to 2009, Bruno Gehrig was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Life Holding, and from 1996 to 2003 he was a Member of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank as well as its Vice Chairman from 2000. He was also a member of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission. From 1989 to 1991 he was Chairman of the Executive Board of Bank Cantrade AG, and from 1981 to 1989 he worked at Union Bank of Switzerland, first as head of the Economics Section, then as head of the Stock Markets and Securities Sales Division.
