This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Institute of Banking. To celebrate the occasion, the institute invited research partners, sponsors, existing and former employees as well as other guests from science, the financial industry and politics to Zurich for the anniversary event on 3 May 2018. The event started with a public lecture by Prof. Dr. Thomas Jordan, President of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, on the reasons why the Swiss National Bank opposes the upcoming full reserve banking initiative.
Dr. Nic Schaub and Prof. Dr. Markus Schmid were granted a Grundlagenforschungsfonds (GFF) Research Grant for the project "Learning by Paper Trading".
Dr. Markus Schmid was appointed to the advisory board of the Swiss Proxy Advisor Inrate / zRating.
Prof. Dr. Paul Söderlind is visiting Maastricht University, Igor Pozdeev is visiting New York University, and Ekaterina Serikova is visiting VU University Amsterdam.
Ph.D. students Igor Pozdeev and Ekaterina Serikova are visiting New York University and VU University Amsterdam respectively.
From September to December 2018, Alexander Bechtel (Ph.D. student in PEF Program) is visiting Prof. Arvind Krishnamurthy at Stanford University to work on his Ph.D. thesis on monetary policy, safe assets, and repurchase agreements.
From August to October 2018, Patrick Schaffner (Ph.D. student in PEF Program) is doing research on his Ph.D. thesis "Central Counterparties and Repurchase Agreements" at the Bank of England in London.
Kristian Blickle (Ph.D. Student in PiF Program) will join the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in August 2018.

EXECUTIVE EDUCATION
The seminar series "Fit for Finance" will be held again in autumn 2018. In addition to conveying theoretical concepts, the course focusses on teaching practically relevant material. The participants will learn how financial markets work and what practical implications this may have for investment advice, financial analysis, risk management, etc.. The course provides an optimal basis for further certifications, especially for the CFA®.
